Stop using "I" statements on your resume!!

When it comes to crafting a resume, your focus should be on showcasing your skills and accomplishments in a professional way. This means you should avoid writing in the first person.

Writing in the first person is awkward, unprofessional, and can be distracting. As a result, it can take away from the impact of the accomplishments and skills you are trying to highlight. Instead, focus on using third person language such as “he/she” or “the candidate.” This will keep the focus on your qualifications and make your resume sound more professional.


It’s also important to avoid using first person pronouns such as “I,” “me,” “my,” and “mine.” These can be seen as informal and unprofessional. Instead, focus on using action-oriented verbs such as “developed,” “managed,” and “led.” This will help to emphasize your accomplishments in a more professional way.


Finally, avoid using first person language when describing your responsibilities or job duties. Instead, focus on describing your accomplishments and how your skills and experiences have added value to your previous employers. This will help to make your resume.
